History of the Hotel
Just after the Jacobite rebellion Maryburgh became the garrison town of Fort William with a substantial military presence in order to prevent any further uprisings. At this time General wade was also building a new military road from the South up to Fort William and beyond, in order to move reinforcements rapidly North in the event of any further insurrection.The Imperial started its life around this time as the humble residence of an army Officer stationed in Maryburgh (Fort William). After retirement from the army this gentleman took up an occupation of guide for hunting and fishing parties intent on pursuing the abundant game in the area. Being away on frequent hunting expeditions he started renting out his house to visitors and subsequently built a smaller cottage behind the house for his own use.
Over the years the hotel has been extended progressively and apart from a period when it became one of the first banks in Fort William it has played host to travellers from those early days to the present when we now welcome guests from all over the world.
With the arrival of the year 2000 the Imperial has redefined its role for the new millennium. A radical refurbishment programme has been started and and we now offer all the facilities of a modern comfortable town center hotel catering for both businessmen and travellers alike. Our refurbished areas including dining areas, public rooms and reception, bars, dedicated conference and meeting venues, and our new executive rooms now provide amenities second to none in the town.
